Gold Medal designed
The Gold Medal of 1903 was designed by Katie Joyce Harris of London. Harris entered the international competition to design the medal, which was to bear an allegorical representation of Venice, recalling her artistic glories. She made two maquettes; a modified version of the one illustrated here (recto and verso) was used for the acutal medal. John Lavery won one in 1903. Medals were also awarded at the two subsequent Biennales (Brangwyn won one in 1905, and again in 1907 as did John Singer Sargent).
